001; Please use correct grammar. Honestly, it makes everything so much easier for everyone. Also, please use correct punctuation, as that is part of proper grammar. Most importantly, use spell check. To make things even easier, there is a button for spell check near the post button! It’s right there, begging to be used, so please press it. I swear it doesn’t bite!
002; Please don’t use excessive fonts that make posts hard to read. The whole point of roleplaying is for others – and you to an extent – to read it. With difficult fonts, people are not able to read it. A great font to use is Verdana, because it looks good. Or, just use the base font of the site, as it can be read easily.
003; Speaking of readability, using size one font and blockquoting makes posts, for the most part, look prettier. So does justifying; and if you really want to get fancy, you can use colors too! Colors can make posts look worse, but can also help a lot. These are not as much rules as they are suggestions to make your posts look great!
004; Here at Winter is Coming, we want you to roleplay to your hearts content, but the general consensus among roleplayers is that roleplayng is more fun when you thread with other people. Before making a bunch of single post, unused threads, check to see if there are open threads (which had [open] in the title). On a contrary note, if a thread has a member’s name in brackets, then that is not an open thread, and if you are not the person whose name is mentioned, you should not post in that thread.
005; Before roleplaying with any given character, they must have a biography. If a finished bio meets site criteria (i.e. not a Mary-Sue) it will be accepted! Once you have an accepted character, you should make an account for it, with the character’s name as the display. Also, that character’s gender should be its gender on that account. Once you do that, you should add that character to your main account’s character directory. Every character that you make must have a bio. You can find the form for making a character biography on the character creation board. As a side note, higher positioned characters may require longer and more fleshed-out biographies.
006; People with high positions must be active once or twice a week. We understand that it is sometimes difficult to maintain activity, but twice a week really isn’t that much. If for some reason you really cannot manage to meet this requirement, please post a message in the introduction/leaving board to let us know that you are away/busy for the upcoming week.
007; The word count minimum on Winter is Coming. This minimum is strictly 150 words. We’d rather not have to have staff go around plugging posts into a word calculator, but this is a minimum that is needed to remain some type of quality. Also, these 150 words should be written with few, if any, grammar mistakes. The word minimum is not even that high, a good paragraph should manage, though more good quality writing is always welcomed. Just to give you an idea of how much 150 words is, this paragraph is already near one hundred words. If you get caught posting under the word limit your thread may be locked until you make a honest attempt at reaching 150 words.

Chat-Box Rules 001; Although it has already been said, it should be reiterated. There is to be no fighting in the cbox at all. Flaming will not be tolerated. If you have an issue with another member, handle it in private messages.
002; There is to be no spamming the cbox. Spam is just annoying and it will make people dislike you. Please just don’t do it.
003; Please keep everything appropriate. Newer members often hang around in a sites cbox to see what the members of a site are like, so let’s try to keep the topics respectable. After all, we don’t want to scare prospective members away.
004; Please don't use chat speak. If you’re going to use acronyms or the likes, fine. But it is not that difficult to type out the word you, nor the word to. Your grammar doesn’t have to be perfect in chat, but we’re all literate people, so let’s try to stay that way!

Graphics 001; Pornography and inappropriate pictures will absolutely not be tolerated here on Winter is Coming. If any pictures of the sort are to be found, the person who brought them to the site will be banned from the site forever.
002; Please do not stretch the forum’s boundaries. If any pictures are found that stretch the boundaries of the forum, the member who is using those larger photos will be asked to take them down. If the member does not comply with this, then a staff member will remove the image for the member.
003; The same thing goes for tables; if they stretch the boundaries, please change them when a staff member asks you to.
004; When it comes to your signature, it must be of your character. For your main account, it can be of anything you want, as long as it complies with the prior stated rules and the Terms of Service.

Punishments 001;First there is the warning. This is nothing more than a dunce hat. Nothing gets taken away from you. Depending on the severity of your offense, you'll get anywhere between ten and eighty percent of your warning bar filled. The warning is also probation, if you have that staff members are going to be keeping a close eye on you.
002; While warnings are accumulative, over time the warning bar will go down. For every week without a warning, you will lose anywhere between fifteen and twenty percent from the warning bar. If the staff forgets to do this, please send one of them a private message and they will do so immediately
003; Of course, if people abuse the system and get a warning every other week, they will not longer have part of their warning bar taken away. Instead, it will build up over time unless a warning is not picked up for a substantial amount of time.
004; If you reach 100% of the warning bar, you will be banned from the forum for a period of time specific to the severity of your offenses.
005; The ban is the final step, and no staff member honestly wants to ban you. No staff member has a predisposed ill will towards you, but if you act in a certain way they will dislike you and eventually be forced to ban you. This worst type of ban is final. If you do enough to get banned from the site, you will also be permanently banned from the cbox.
